GOTS is not a new goat genus, but stands for Global Organic Textile Standard and sets the highest ecological, sustainable and social standards for organically produced natural fibres

Global Organic Textile Standard

GOTS and organic cotton

The cotton is organically grown, i.e. no pesticides or other harmful substances are used that harm the environment and the health of the farmers. Instead natural fertilizer is used. In addition the cotton gets picked by hand. Chemical defoliants for the facilitation of a mechanical harvest are not used. According to GOTS, 95% or more fibres must come from controlled organic farming so that a tshirt can be labelled as "organic" + with the GOTS seal.

GOTS and further processing

In the field of knitting, ready-made clothing and textile finishing only certain substances and processes areallowed to be used which are as far as possible environmentally friendly . According to GOTS, the following must be observed:

  • Printing with water-based inks
  • Bleaching without chlorine, but on oxygen basis
  • Waste water treatment
  • Accessories such as buttons are made of natural materials such as stone nut, mother-of-pearl or horn

All suppliers from cultivation to the finished shirt must be GOTS-certified in order for the shirts to bear the GOTS seal. All suppliers Armedangels works with are GOTS certified.

GOTS and social standards

In addition to the ecology of textiles, the GOTS also covers social standards of the production chain. All these standards are based on the criteria of the International Labour Organization (ILO), which include the following:

  • Payment of minimum wages that comply with legal or industry standards
  • Ensuring health and safety protection in the workplace
  • Social security / Employment contracts
  • No discrimination
  • Prohibition of child labour and forced labour
  • Right to freedom of organisation and collective bargaining

Why is armedangels GOTS certified?

It was not enough for us to be Fairtrade certified. We wanted to go one step further. We have always made sure that production is as environmentally friendly as possible. The certification, however, determines the use of exclusively ecological substances and is checked once a year by an independent certification body. In our opinion, the combination of Fairtrade and GOTS complements each other 100% and allows us to say that we are fair and eco.
